History

Innovation and passion since
1991

Alutech stands for high-quality bikes created from the passion and experience of riders for riders. Since its founding in 1991, the brand has continuously evolved and today offers a portfolio that conquers every terrain with innovative designs, perfect geometry, and maximum performance. Discover the story of a brand that doesn’t just build bikes, but lives and shapes bike culture.

The
Beginning

Alutech was founded in 1991 in Bielefeld by a CNC workshop. In 2001, Jürgen Schlender took over the brand – without any stock, but with a clear vision: bikes built by riders for riders. The first models, the Wildsau Hardride and the DDU, were created in cooperation with Nicolai. But Jürgen’s desire for in-house production led to the creation of the “Kuh”, a complex DH frame. This was followed by further developments such as a lighter enduro model, a downhill version with over 200 mm of travel, and the DDU CheapTrick – an affordable hardtail still in the lineup today.

The
Evolution

In 2006, Alutech broke away from traditional four-link suspension designs with the “Pudel”. This lightweight freeride bike – what we would now call an enduro – set new benchmarks in price–performance. Variants like the Slope-Pudel and the Pudel DH WorldCup followed. Just one year later, Alutech introduced the “Keiler”, a pure DH race bike.

The
Transition

By 2010 it was clear: Alutech needed fresh momentum. Together with developer Stefan Stark, the “Fanes” was created – an entirely new enduro frame platform. The community was involved from day one; their wishes and feedback directly influenced the development. The press loved it – and even more importantly, so did the riders.

The
2nd Transition

In 2018, Alutech launched a complete design overhaul of its bikes, with Markus Tanzer now responsible for the new design language. Jürgen and Markus work together seamlessly – two people who didn’t search for each other, but found each other. With the CNC eFanes, they wrote bike-industry history… and there is more to come!

Back to
the roots

In 2020, the pandemic turned the world upside down – including life for the Alutech family. But giving up wasn’t an option. The geometry experiment “Armageddon”, featuring an extreme 57° head angle, was initially laughed off as a crazy idea. But it became a decisive step: back to manufacturing in Germany.

Unequal
twins

In 2024, Alutech expanded its lineup with the “Pelmo” trail bike and the “ePelmo” e-bike to meet rider demands. In 2025, the updated “Punk 2” gravel bike also joins the portfolio.

Today

Today, Alutech offers a strong portfolio – thoughtful, refined, and ready for any terrain. Instead of releasing new models constantly, existing bikes are continuously improved, geometries and kinematics updated, and real rider feedback implemented. Always with one goal: to make the best even better. And Jürgen? When he’s not welding or developing, he’s exactly where he belongs – on the trails of the world.
